Breakthrough Café @ Changi
Believing in Second Chances
| Singapore | Status: In Progress

We worked with Breakthrough Missions, a social service organisation under the Singapore Anti Narcotics Association, to provide job opportunities, ease social stigmas and bridge social gaps for ex inmates and drug addicts in today’s society.

A café, with various supportive job employments such as barber and foot reflexology, was envisioned at a corner of Changi Village. Situated just a stone throw away from Changi Prison, the café is seen as a beacon of hope for inmates (present and released) to know that they still have a place in society.

The café is also envisioned as an extension of the halfway house where ex-inmates and ex-drug addicts not just integrate, but are also able to give back to society through their crafts – food, art, and skills.

The design supports informal conversations in varying degrees of engagement and will allow visitors to better understand the stories of the ex-inmates and ex-drug addicts.
